Call to “Match the $291 raised in Harlem for the BAsics Bus Tour”

A brother who worked on raising money in Harlem sent out this call:  “I want to ask people to match the $291 that was raised in Harlem for the Basics Bus Tour. Triple it, quadruple it if you can. Raising this money was fun but it was a very, very necessary thing to do. Humanity needs revolution but there won’t be revolution without the BAsics. People have to find out about BA, and this tour is making that happen.

$291 was raised in Harlem last weekend at a yard sale and a penny drive where a five-gallon water jug was set up next to an enlargement of BAsics quote 5:7, “American Lives Are Not More Important Than Other People’s Lives.” Everyone walking by was asked if they agreed with this statement. From there we talked more about the tour. Everybody was told that their contribution was needed to help bring the tour to New York and surrounding areas, and that they should put as much money as they could into the jug — but big or small everybody could contribute something. 74 people threw in $80, and this, added to the $151 raised at the sale ended up in a successful day.  Another 55 people contributed $60 the next day, bringing the total to $291.00 from 129 people in Harlem.

The brother who worked on this yard sale and penny drive continued:  “People from and around the projects did an important thing giving this money and they need to be encouraged and made stronger by seeing other people matching it. It would mean so much if people knew that what they did inspired professionals and professors to support the bus tour, to match our $291. It would mean a whole lot. This is part of a bigger picture. The BAsics Bus Tour introduced Virginia, the sister in Sanford, Florida, to BA through BAsics, then some people in the projects got introduced to Virginia and what she had to say. It’s beautiful. It’s inspirational. It’s something that ricochets-Bing! Bing! Bing! This is spreading, and it means so much. I’m asking you to make it go farther. This is the beginning of how a movement of hundreds becomes thousands, and thousands can become millions and then more millions in the right situation.”

Match the $291 Raised at the “Penny Drive” in Harlem!

A recent snapshot on this blog, “From Uptown (NY City),” reported on a fundraising yard sale and “Penny Drive” in Harlem where people brought their penny jars to contribute to the pile. In addition to the $151 raised from the sale of donated goods, the crew had a water jug with a sign saying “DONATE! The BAsics Bus Tour”—into which 74 people threw in $80, and a few days later another 55 people contributed $60 for a total of $291 raised. The report said, “The Penny Drive with its chart of how many people contributed turned into one way that many people could give material support to the tour on the spot, no matter what their economic situation. Now if we win a few people who have more resources to match what is being raised by people who have few, we really can raise lots of money and help the bus tour reach many, many people.”
We are calling on people to take up this challenge! All across the country, we want to aim to get 25 matching donations of $291 each by the end of this week. Have potential donors read the blog posting from Harlem and watch the video about the last leg of the Tour. Then ask them to match the donations given by this grouping of people who have few resources. Of course, if a donor has the means to give more, they should be asked to do so.

Pero que después de esta gira, recorriendo los pueblos, barrios y otras otros lugares más remotos del país, conociendo el libro Lo BAsico y adentrándose a toda una visión de un mundo radicalmente diferente, en lugares como California, Atlanta y Florida, donde lincharon a Trayvon Martin.[[MORE]] Un par de amigos y yo, salimos a las calles de Washington Heights, donde la brutalidad policial esta a flor de piel y donde tiene una historia de rebeliones provocados por los asesinatos a manos de la policía. En donde existe un número muy notable de gente, procedente de la Republica Dominica. Con periódicos en la mano y una pancarta gigante con la cita de Lo BAsico 1:13, “No mas generaciones de nuestra juventud, aquí o a través del mundo, cuyas vidas se acaban, cuyo futuro ya esta sellado, que han sido condenados a una muerte temprana o a una vida de miseria y brutalidad, que el sistema a destinado a opresión y al olvido incluso antes de que nazcan. Yo digo no más de eso.” Mucha gente leyó la cita, la mayoría le gusto y varios donaron unos dólares a la misma vez que dejaban un mensaje escrito sobre la pancarta, algunos hablaban del socialismo otros deseándonos suerte, otros nos dejaron bendiciones y otros decían que el futuro era la juventud. Creo que la que mas me gusto fue una que preguntaba, ¿hasta cuando va a llegar la revolución? pues creo que esa impaciencia es un sentimiento que mucha gente comparte. En nuestro recorrido vendimos un Lo BAsico y algunos periódicos, asimismo tuvimos varias  discusiones y encuentros con algunas personas sobre la cita una que se me quedo muy presente fue la de dos hombres que leyeron la cita pero al terminar de leerla, dijeron que no la firmarían pues venia de los comunistas y que ellos no eran comunistas… les dijimos que no era un requisito, sin embargo se negaron. Mas adelante otras personas que si se emocionaron al vernos y al hablar de la Gira, dijo uno de ellos: ¡dame ese pancarta la voy a firmar por que yo conozco a este BA!, refiriéndose al libro Lo BAsico, pues lo adquirió hace unos meses atrás, enseguida llegaron las dos personas que no firmaron, en cuestión de segundos exploto un debate entre los presentes, unos criticando a los comunistas y otros defendiendo la línea comunista. Creo que fue muy interesante el debate, aunque no creo que los defensores sepan de la nueva síntesis pero hasta cierto nivel, también defendieron a BA, puesto todo pasaba mientras leían el periódico y firmaban la pancarta. Creo que en el proceso de esta Gira y la campaña en general para promover la obra y visión de BA, afirmando que esta es la única solución, podemos aprender mucho, especialmente cuando surgen debates como este, debería de haber todo una atmósfera donde la gente exponga sus puntos de vista, de como entienden el mundo y si esto de verdad va a cambiar el mundo o no, pero no debemos aislarnos y mas bien romper con esa barrera del incomodar con lo que decimos y adentrarnos a la lucha ideológica.

100 Days - 100 Hoodies in Harlem, the impact of BAsics 1:13

Yesterday’s march “100 Days – 100 Hoodies” was greeted with great enthusiasm by people in Harlem. On June 5th, 100 days after the modern American lynching of Trayvon Martin, Harlem youth and others declare “We Are All Trayvon Martin” and respond to the message of BAsics 1:13. They added their names and messages to a poster bearing this quote:

“No more generations of our youth, here and all around the world, whose life is over, whose fate has been sealed, who have been condemned to an early death or a life of misery and brutality, whom the system has destined for oppression and oblivion even before they are born. I say no more of that.”

June 2nd Celebration at Marcus Garvey Park, Harlem, NYC:
picnic and report back from the BAsics Bus Tour

On Sat. Jun 2 we had a picnic at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem to celebrate and welcome back the volunteers who had participated in the recent leg of the BAsics Bus Tour that went into the deep South.

A group of young girls ranging in age from 5-12 years old were the first to arrive. A week before the picnic one of the girls had run into revolutionaries and signed the BAsics 1:13 “No more generations of our youth…” quote banner — writing “Fair is fair” as her contribution. She had been thinking about the picnic all week and invited her friends. The girls read the quote palm card aloud in unison. The 5-year-old wanted to add “No Racism” to the banner and since she had not yet learned how to write an older girl wrote it for her.

People across the country are supporting — and acting together with — the BAsics Bus Tour… from Seattle:

People gathered at Revolution Books in Seattle for a BAsics Bus Tour kick-off party. A nicely decorated table in the center of the store welcomed everyone with flyers, cards and papers and a sign inviting people to take stacks to help spread the movement for revolution. There was food and celebration of the potential for what the Bus Tour can change in the South and nationwide. People were moved and inspired by the video messages from the tour that we watched online-by the bold projection of BA and communist revolution and by the support for the Tour voiced by youth in Atlanta who had just encountered it.

Through the party, personal donations and money contributed from students in a college classroom, $240 was raised to support the BAsics Bus Tour. An additional large and very generous donation came from a woman and her husband. She shared her thoughts about why they had donated, saying she loves the RCP and cited BAsics 4:21, the analogy that reality is like a burning object, and if you want to move it, you need an instrument. She said she believes the masses can take up revolutionary theory…that people need an instrument to handle fire and Bob Avakian’s new synthesis is that instrument. She expressed a lot of hope in the Bus Tour’s ability to reach people who’ve never heard about this movement for revolution and need to understand how the world can be radically changed.

People created and signed a banner with BAsics 1:13 on the spot. Plans were made take it out to a large street fair over the weekend to spread word of the Tour, as well as gather people to watch video messages from the Tour on May 22nd. The whole idea and reality of the Bus Tour has struck a deep chord with people who are looking for a force to challenge “the way things are”. The Bus Tour has made very real for those who are looking for this and have heard of the Bus Tour, that there is a living force for revolution that is growing.
