June 2nd Celebration at Marcus Garvey Park, Harlem, NYC:
picnic and report back from the BAsics Bus Tour

On Sat. Jun 2 we had a picnic at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem to celebrate and welcome back the volunteers who had participated in the recent leg of the BAsics Bus Tour that went into the deep South.

A group of young girls ranging in age from 5-12 years old were the first to arrive. A week before the picnic one of the girls had run into revolutionaries and signed the BAsics 1:13 “No more generations of our youth…” quote banner — writing “Fair is fair” as her contribution. She had been thinking about the picnic all week and invited her friends. The girls read the quote palm card aloud in unison. The 5-year-old wanted to add “No Racism” to the banner and since she had not yet learned how to write an older girl wrote it for her.

Build on the momentum of the BAsics Bus Tour — Attend and Build for Report-Back Celebrations in Your Area!

Over the past few weeks, many hundreds of people across the country have stepped forward to make something very important happen… the second leg of the BAsics bus tour which went through parts of the South and delivered a message from those hundreds to the people of Sanford.  In accomplishing this, people around the country, the volunteers on the bus  and those that the Bus Tour met in the South have been part of cohering a national movement around the mass fundraising campaign to project Bob Avakian’s vision and works into every corner of society, BA Everywhere…Imagine the Difference It Could Make! More than $30,000 has been raised, to pay for this leg of the Tour and for materials and initial seed money for the next leg of the Tour.

Come to the report back in your area or write us so we can put you in touch events in your area or near by. (See below for celebrations in New York, Los Angeles, the Bay Area and Cleveland.) And find out other ways, where ever you are and whether you only have a couple of hours a week or the whole summer (!) to build on the momentum created by the BAscis Bus Tour in the South.  Write baeverywhere [AT] gmail.com to volunteer to work with press, social networking, developing a web site and much more! And to let us know of other events.

Reports are coming in from across the country… Tour Kick-Off Celebration in NYC

Correspondence from New York:
Revolution Books, NYC, was decked out in crepe paper streamers, balloons and flowers for the send-off  party for the BAsics Bus Tour from Atlanta. Andy Zee opened the program: “That’s our blood down there”  referring to people in the Bible belt/Lynching belt South, and to the bus volunteers connecting them with the way out.  The actor Aladdin read from BAsics about “the youth with their pants hanging down,” and said he calls the bus, the “no bullshit, tell the truth bus.”  A university professor spoke movingly about his experience teaching at an all-Black college in North Carolina and how he would like to be on the bus: “These are people abandoned by the system: taken for granted by the political system taken advantage of by the economic system and assaulted ideologically by the religious system. There are ideological barriers that have to be confronted to unravel the contradictions to overturn the situation that oppresses people.” He spoke about how this BAsics Bus Tour is doing this. A letter written by a minister of an important church to one of the volunteers was read, along with the volunteer’s response: “I’ve been with you out there on the front lines in the battle against injustice, and know the seriousness and weight of your words and am personally emboldened and uplifted by them. I am going down South, to join with others on this BAsics Bus Tour. We ride to connect people with Avakian, whose life work and mission has been human emancipation. We ride with the hopes and dreams of a better world. Not just our own hopes and dreams, but of many who are watching what we do, many who have supported in various ways, and the many more who do not yet know who I am or that I am joining with others to do this. We ride with you.”
